DIVINE MERCY

(The God of Another Chance)

I'm sure Jonah was afraid when he saw a big fish opening its mouth to swallow him. But the record says; "The LORD prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights" (Job 1:17). When Jonah prepared himself to die because of his sins—mistakes and wrong decisions, God prepared for him a way of escape. You may be afraid because of your past mistakes, decisions, or lifestyle.

You may be expecting something terrible to afflict you, and the occurrences taking place around you now may seem to suggest so. You may be prepared to quit, to commit suicide or to embrace failure, but God is the God of another chance. The big fish which you're waiting to consume you is your lifeboat to the shore. Instead of allowing you to be drowned by your terrible past, God's plan for you "is to give you hope and a better future" (Jeremiah 29:11).

Divine mercy is what enables a tree stump to grow into a beautiful tree again after it's been cut. It's what enables a potter to mold a broken pot into a new beautiful pot. God's divine mercy is greater than your mess; it can turn your trouble into double blessings. How far have you wandered? How deep are you into sin? How many mistakes have you committed? God is not just a God of a second chance, but a God of another chance. "For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again" (Proverbs 24:16). Don’t stay in your sin, don’t stay in the past, embrace the divine mercy of a loving God. God loves you!
